I played this with some of my friends for a series I dubbed Outrageous One Shots. I hadn’t laughed that hard in a very long time. I’m grateful as we were all feeling some really big feelings and needed something very gay and very awesome to help us out.
We played as 4 Hot Gay Bro Dragons in a polycule. I may or may not have played as Gene, Destroyer of Men. Our play through was equal parts sweet, sexy, playful, and ridiculous. I remember saying that I felt like I had when I first really started figuring out myself and dating. Giddy. Hopeful. Excited. Nervous.
We debriefed after and all gave it full stars. And noted that if we played with our actual partners…. It would be very easy to get distracted and not finish the game.
Another awesome, lovely, and fun game from Riverhouse Games.
Hot Gay Bro Dragons is a game about declaring your love for a hot gay bro dragon. The gender, orientation, and quantity of dragons are changeable, but the romantic declaration part is not.
Right off the bat, it leads with super strong layout and a gorgeous cover, plus some cheeky bro-dragon-related graphics. This stays consistent throughout, and the pdf is really easy to read.
Gameplay-wise, HGBD is more of a dialogue (you both go back and forth framing scenes) and less of a mechanical challenge. Honestly, it's probably even more accurate to say it's a series of affirmations, since the game directly says that it's less about telling a story and more about expressing love.
For folks who don't want to express love / have love expressed to them, this is a neat design and a cool game to read, but probably not what you're looking to play. For folks who really like both of the above, this is probably a thing you will enjoy playing.
Overall, I'd recommend this on its art/writing/concept alone, and it's especially worth a look if you're interested in romance rpgs.
A cute, silly and sweet micro-TTRPG where you play as dragons in love, talking about how much they love each other. If that sounds like your thing, you should definitely check it out. Bonus points for inclusive asides regarding gender and polyamorous relationships! 3/5 stars - enjoyable.
The rules say "you don’t have to be a boy to play this game, and if He/Him/His pronouns make you uncomfortable you have my permission to change them. If you’re not a boy but you want to be for this game to see how it feels, you don’t need my permission for it, but you have it anyway." Does that help at all? :)
A little, I'm transfemme though so I definitely wouldn't be wanting to try being a boy. Did it for 26 years and it didn't work out for me lmao. I was just hoping for a game with cool lesbian dragons, yknow?
Yeah, I get that. I believe the 'bro' theme is because it was inspired by a set of comics with male characters. However, as it's a game where you make up the details of your characters and their relationship dynamic, you can make them be cool lesbian dragons with no additional effort required. :)
I’ll be playing this with my partner, they’ll be likely playing a nonbinary dragon while i’m the boyfreind!! :)) Hahaha this is basically everyday life for me at this point
